Refractive Surgery
LASIK & PRK
Laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) are laser procedures that reshape the cornea to correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.
Dr. Andrew Sorenson performs LASIK and PRK at UC Berkeley Refractive Surgery Center. The “all-laser LASIK” technique utilizing the femtosecond laser has made LASIK an incredibly reliable and successful way to improve your vision. While laser vision correction has freed many people from their dependency on glasses, the procedure is not for everybody and the risks and disadvantages need to be considered. In addition, Dr. Sorenson recommends you review the information presented by the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) LASIK website.
ICL
The Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is a lens implant that is surgically placed between the iris and the natural lens inside the eye to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. Dr. Andrew Sorenson performs ICL surgery at EyeMD Laser & Surgery Center.
