Our Practice

Lionel Sorenson, MD

Ophthalmologist

As a pioneer Bay Area ophthalmologist, Dr. Lionel Sorenson has fostered a tradition of service in the East Bay. He served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF, President of the Alta Bates Medical Center Staff, and participated actively in Berkeley Rotary for 45 years. Dr. Sorenson is one of the first regional ophthalmologists to offer Argon Laser therapy for Diabetic Retinopathy and other retinal diseases and was a pioneer in cataract surgical implants. Dr. Sorenson currently maintains a comprehensive ophthalmology practice.

Dr. Sorenson has fostered a great legacy, as three of his five sons have pursued ophthalmology, one son is a printer and one son is a physicist. Dr. Sorenson and his wife of 62 years, Ann, are grandparents to 20, and great-grandparents to 10; none of whom have yet formerly declared an interest in ophthalmology, but it is definitely in their genes
